Rock Group

On the 11th July 2003 the Rock Group went on their annual weekend away. This year the Rock Group went to Golant, Cornwall. The Rock Group leaders, Tim Mullins, Liz Lea and Martin Faull, took us to Cornwall by minibus. The journey was long and we all were all very glad when we arrived at the Youth Hostel.

The group was split into three rooms: girls, boys and men. The girls' room was the biggest and had an en-suite bathroom. It was about 9 o'clock so we all happily fell into bed and had a well deserved sleep.

In the morning we went to Restormel Castle, which appeared to have been used for a play, as there was a stage and many chairs and a few props. We had our lunch, provided by the Youth Hostel, and then went to the beach for a small rock-climb, and Sophie fell on the rocks and cut herself. Many of us bought an ice cream from an ice-cream van. When we had been for a walk, we crossed the river and had a small look around Fowey. We then went into the Royal Grammar School gardens and had a sit in the shade, before returning to the Youth Hostel, where we had our dinner after a game of French Cricket. We then planned our service for the morning before going to sleep.

Next morning we had breakfast and then went into a classroom and had our service, including hymns, readings and a psalm. We then loaded our belongings onto the minibus and drove off to Par Beach. We had lunch on the beach and Martin, Ed, Jon, Sophie, David and I went into the sea. We then went back to the beach we had been to the day before and some of us had some more ice-creams and then we went back to the minibus and stopped at MacDonalds on the way home. We arrived back in Cheltenham at approximately 9 o'clock, and were dropped off at our houses.

The leaders all worked extremely hard to make our weekend great fun. This was the second time that I have been youth hostelling with the Rock group and I look forward to going again next summer. Thank you Liz, Tim and Martin.
