It is nearly half-term already and lots of events and activities have been taking place at School. We were very pleased to have achieved the bronze Eco award, which is part of a Government scheme to encourage schools to plan for a sustainable future. Pupils carried out a survey to look at recycling and energy use at the school, and to explore other 'green' issues. The School is now aiming for a Silver Eco Award.
The School is very grateful to the Local History Society for their generous donation of £500 to the School. This has been used to buy some wonderful new history resources, which the staff and children will enjoy using.
Year 5 have been investigating the effect of the forces of gravity and air resistance in an eggciting way. Groups of children worked together to design and make an 'egg transporter' which would safely allow an egg to descend from a height to the floor without breaking. Some designs were more successful than others, but the children worked well in their teams and enjoyed the eggsperiment. (Sorry!)
Year 1 classes created a 'family toy museum' in the library, with toys that the children enjoy now and some that their parents and grandparents played with when they were children.
It snowed! The children loved playing on the field and made snowmen and worked really hard to make a 3 metre high snow model of the Devil's Chimney.
FOLPS held their annual and perennially popular Beetle Drive. This is an event which the children and their families always enjoy. Their next events are a quiz night on 2nd March and a jumble sale/big toy sale on 10th March. Look out for more publicity nearer the time.
The School was very pleased to welcome the congregation of St. Peter's Church for their Parish Communion and Stewardship Service, which was held in the School Hall on 11th February.
