Leckhampton C. E. Primary School News October 2006

As we reach the October break, school life is well under way. The children now start the day with 'Wake and Shake' aerobic exercises in the playground with the aim that they are fully alert and ready to learn as they go into their classes. The children are certainly enthusiastic about this - and parents have been seen joining in too!

Open evenings for parents have been taking place, providing the opportunity for parents to find out how their children have settled down into their new classes since September.

Paul Wilkinson led the School in the Harvest Thanksgiving service. The children took contributions of produce, which made a wonderful display during the service and were sold later in the day, with the money raised being donated to school charities. See the St Peter's website for pictures.

A choir from Romania, 'The Impact Singers,' visited the school and sang for the children and staff during an Assembly. They are touring the UK to raise money for Romanian orphanages,

The Prayer network for Leckhampton Primary School held its annual service at St. Peter's. Melissa Webb, recently returned from the pilgrimage to Iona, spoke about prayer as part of daily life, and Mr. Gardner spoke about God at work in the life of the school. The service included singing and prayer, with the lighting of candles during the prayers - a moving and reflective occasion. We stayed to chat afterwards over a glass of wine.

The Friends of the School have a full programme of events lined up for the rest of the term. They have already held a successful children's fashion show, and now look forward to a jumble sale at 2pm on 4th November, a barn dance on 10th November and the Christmas Fair on 2nd December.

Families with children who will be starting school next September (2007) will be considering a school place for their child. There will be a meeting at Leckhampton Primary School on the evening of 22nd November for parents who are interested in a place at the school for their child next year. In the meantime, the headteacher, Mr Gardner, will be pleased to show you round the school during the school day, so please ring the school (524062) and arrange a visit.

See the school website at www.leckhampton.gloucs.sch.uk for more information and pictures.
