Leckhampton C. E. Primary School News June 2006

On a beautiful sunny morning, the Key Stage 2 children visited St. Peter's Church for a service to celebrate Pentecost. Paul led the service and with the help of one of the children, whose own birthday had been the previous day, he explained that Pentecost was the Church's birthday. The children sang 'Happy Birthday' to the child and then to the Church. The service included songs, prayers, readings and a video which recounted the sequence of events from the Resurrection, via the Road to Emmaus, to the Ascension and to Pentecost.

The children in Key Stage 2 enjoyed their Sports Day, which took place on a beautiful afternoon. The children took part in sprint races and various activities which demonstrated their sporting skills. Exciting and closely contested relay races rounded off the afternoon. The scores achieved by the houses were very close, but St. Patrick emerged as the winners and Mr. Gardner presented the House Captains with the trophy.

In a recent 'Cheltenham in Bloom' competition, Leckhampton Primary School's Conservation Area received a Highly Commended Award, which was presented by the Mayoress at a prize-giving ceremony at Holy Apostles' Primary School. The prize included a garden voucher to be spent on the Conservation area.

The Leckhampton School Wildlife Quiz team won the Cheltenham area final, competing against Grangefield Primary School in Bishop's Cleeve. They will now represent the School in the County final in June. Well done to them!

The children in Year 6 are preparing for their visit to the Isle of Wight at the end of June. More about that in next month's magazine!

Plans are well under way for the summer event organised by the Friends of the School which will take place on the late afternoon and early evening of Saturday, July 15th.
