The Rector of St Peter’s established the original school in 1842, and since then, the Church and the School have maintained close links at the heart of the community of Leckhampton. Revd Paul Wilkinson is a familiar face around the school, leading worship in assemblies and visiting the classes. The children visit the Church for their services and for class-based work. The school is a Voluntary Controlled School, the parish priest is a Governor and there are 3 other Foundation Governors nominated by the Parochial Church Council of St Peter’s. The school has flourished and grown considerably during the past 163 years and is now a popular and very successful school which caters for 420 pupils. Leckhampton School has a strong ethos based on Christian values with the aim that every child is a happy, valued and confident member of the school community and is able to fulfil their potential. There are strong sporting and musical traditions. Concern for the local, wider and global community means that more than £2000 is raised for charity each year.
The Autumn term started on 6th September, everyone has settled in very quickly and school life is well under way. We welcome to the Leckhampton School family all the children in Reception classes, other children new to the school, their parents and carers, and the three new class teachers: Mrs. Pinless, who is teaching a Year 1 class, Mr. Dean teaching a Year 5 class, and Mrs. Oakey, who teaches a Year 6 class. This promises to be a very busy and exciting term – watch this space in the coming months for details of events and activities!
The annual reunion for former pupils will take place on Saturday, 1st October from 6.30 to 10.30 pm at school. More details can be obtained from the school.
The Friends of Leckhampton Primary School are currently compiling their programme of social and fund-raising events for the term. The school places tremendous value on the partnership with parents and carers and the support which they provide to their children’s learning and to the school in many ways.
