Leckhampton C. E. Primary School News May 2006

The builders have just installed the windows in our new building, so we can really start to see what it will look like when it is finished! They are also working on the interior.

The Year 6 children have now completed their Key Stage 2 SATS tests. After lots of hard work, they can now look forward to the rest of the term, with anticipation and excitement growing about their trip to the Isle of Wight in June.

Many of the other children have also been on visits. The Reception classes have visited the Cotswold Farm Park, where they saw lots of baby animals. Year 2 have visited Weston, where they were able to play on the beach, in very pleasant spring sunshine.

Year 1 children have visited St. Peter's Church as part of their R. E. curriculum, looking at places of worship and what makes them special.

A speaker from the Muslim community in Gloucester has visited the school to talk to Year 5 children in connection with their study of Islam, and they have visited a mosque in Gloucester.

To mark the Queen's 80th birthday on 21st April, and also the London Marathon on 23rd April, there was a non-uniform day, when the children could come to school dressed either as Royalty or as sporting stars. The children paid for this privilege, with the proceeds being given to charity.

Many of the children have participated in the Cheltenham Festival of Performing Arts (formerly the Competitive Festival). The infant and junior choirs and the Recorder Ensemble all took part. In addition, many children have taken part individually in verse speaking, reading at sight, music and dance classes. The children performed exceptionally well and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Thanks to all the staff and parents who helped and supported them.

The Wildlife Quiz team won the second round of their competition and so progress to the next round.

The Friends of the School (FOLPS) held a Big Toy Sale to raise funds for the school. Plans are well in hand for their Summer event on the afternoon and evening of July 15th.
